Centre for Advances in Reliability and Safety Limited (CAiRS), initiated by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, is established in 2020 with its operation located in the Hong Kong Science Park, New Territories, Hong Kong. The mission of CAiRS is to bridge academic and industrial counterparts to introduce and implement artificial intelligence methods and prognostic techniques to advance reliability and safety. The goal of the Centre is to improve reliability and safety of critical components and devices, products, systems and sub-systems designed, commissioned and/or manufactured by Hong Kong companies and enterprises. 1. Postdoctoral Fellow

2. Research Associate (Ref. No.: CAiRS-R26/P4.3)  [Appointment period: thirty-six months]


The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project “Functional safety verification of systems that implement AI”. The project will develop safety criteria for functional behavior of AI to implement certifiable to standards.

They will be required to:

  1. work with industry counterparts in consolidating academic research into tangible deliverables;
  2. steer the project, and ensure good and appropriate applicability to commercial/industrial partners;
  3. coordinate the delivery, installation and testing of the equipment; and ensure the equipment being properly installed, tested and commissioned at the Centre;
  4. manage research and development activities including technical and financial aspects, and other project administrative tasks such as preparing project updates and reports;
  5. work closely with research colleagues of the teams;
  6. coordinate with local and overseas universities, research institutions and business partners, and handle enquiries in a professional manner; and
  7. perform any other duties as assigned by the Centre Director or his delegates.


Applicants for the post of Postdoctoral Fellow should have a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification in S-T-E-M related disciplines and must have no more than five years of post-qualification experience at the time of application. 

Applicants for the post of Research Associate should have an honours degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or a relevant discipline.

For both posts, applicants should also:

  1. have knowledge of corporate product development;
  2. be well-organized, capable to work under pressure and able to handle multi-tasking assignments in a multidisciplinary team;
  3. have excellent interpersonal skills; and
  4. have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, with proficiency in Putonghua being an advantage.


A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
